How to back up BlackBerry smartphone data using BlackBerry Desktop Software for Windows

Overview
To back up the BlackBerry smartphone data using BlackBerry Desktop Software, complete the following steps:
- Open BlackBerry Desktop Software.
- Connect the smartphone to the computer using the USB cable.
- Once the smartphone is detected, click Back Up Now.
- Select the appropriate Backup type:
- Full (all device data and settings)
- Quick (exclude email)
- Custom (selected data only)
Note: If Custom is selected, a new box will be presented where the individual databases can be selected for back up (for a list of all databases, see Article 03974).
- If the smartphone is equipped with built-in media storage, select the Files saved on my built-in media storage check box.
- Click Back up.
To enable automatic backups of the BlackBerry smartphone data using BlackBerry Desktop Software, complete the following steps:
- Open BlackBerry Desktop Software .
- Connect the smartphone to the computer using the USB cable.
- Once the smartphone is detected, click Device > Device options.
- Under the When I connect my device heading, select the Back up my device check box and select how often a backup needs to be performed from the drop-down list.
- Click OK.
